1. How did you end up doing what you do?
Originally an arable farm, Shropshire Petals also grew a selection of flowers, which we dried and sold at local WI markets and to wholesalers. After we had an enquiry from a customer asking if our petals could be dyed and used for confetti, we realised that the delphiniums we grew would be perfect for wedding confetti as the petals are small and light, and no dyes would need to be added. So, in 2005, Shropshire Petals was born. We now grow a wide range of petals in a wonderful array of colours, from which, couples can pick and mix their own unique confetti to match or contrast their wedding theme.

2. What's the best part about your job?
Here in the petal shed, we love getting orders through from customers and seeing the mixes they have created. This actually gives us inspiration when it comes to creating our mixes of the month. We certainly see trends emerge when putting orders together.

Our favourite time of year at Shropshire Petals has to be summer, for six weeks from July to the mid-August, our flowers are blooming and we are busy harvesting. It’s a very busy time as we have pickers hand picking flowers from the fields, we then de-petal them by hand back in the de-petalling shed and naturally dry them before storing them all in the petal shed.

3. What's the most unusual wedding you've worked on?
We regularly send confetti out to photographers for their styled photo shoots. We love to see how different photographers and stylists use confetti and share the photographs with our customers as inspiration for their weddings.

We have also supplied confetti for celebrity weddings. Most recently, we supplied confetti to Duncan Bannatyne and Nigora Whitehorn, and Jacqueline Jossa and Dan Osbourne. Both couples chose our new personalised confetti cones as they could be designed to match their wedding themes and personalised with their names and wedding date.

4. What's your most popular type of wedding product?
Our most popular product has to be our Shropshire Box. This is a white or kraft keepsake box, which comes complete with 25 confetti cones and plenty of confetti to fill them. We now have 18 gorgeous confetti cone colours to choose from, which means customers can match their cones to their wedding colours as well as their confetti.

We recently launched our personalised confetti cones, which are also proving to be really popular. Customers can choose from nine different designs, then personalise the colour and add their names and wedding date to be printed on their cones.

Here at Shropshire Petals, we like to include everyone in the confetti moment, young and old, so we are just about to launch our brand-new Confetti Wands for the kids to get involved too. These are the perfect size for little ones to hold and throw during the confetti moment.

5. What advice would you give couples wanting to order your products?
We get asked for advice when ordering confetti, so here are the top 5 asked questions:

1. Will my venue allow confetti?
Most churches and venues now only allow biodegradable confetti, making our natural petal confetti the perfect choice. Some still might not allow confetti, so we recommend ordering a sample to show them that our petals are natural, eco-friendly and just like blossom falling from a tree, they will disappear within a few days.

2. How much do I need to order?
About half of your guests will throw confetti – usually just the ladies! 1 litre of confetti will be plenty for 10 handfuls. You can use the online confetti calculator to help work out how much you will need for your throwing confetti as well as calculating how much to order if you want confetti for decorations, petal paths or for your flower girls.

3. Which petals should I order?
Smaller petals such as our delphiniums and wildflowers are best for throwing as they are light, ensuring you get that perfect flutter when they are thrown. Larger petals are great for using to decorate your tables, however as they are heavier, we don’t recommend you use them for throwing on their own. If there are colours you want only available in larger petals, choose to mix them with smaller petals for a bold colour splash on your photographs.

4. How do I choose my petals?
Use the interactive pick and mix selector on the website to create your very own unique confetti mix. Choose from the wonderful selection of petal types and colours to match or contrast your wedding theme. Can’t decide? Order some samples to see your mix in the flesh.

5. When should I order?
We suggest that you order your confetti up to 3 or 4 months in advance as the petals will keep beautifully when stored in a cool dry place. If you want to tick your confetti off the list early, we have a delayed delivery service, which means you can place your order now and we will send your confetti out 3-6 weeks before the big day.
